I always start with a loose sketch in the beginning! I know I wanted a piece with interesting textured linework.
02 :PRELIMINARY VALUE
Sometimes I’ll decide a simple value structure if I have an idea of where I want the most contrast to be.
03 :PRELIMINARY COLOR
Colorizing early on helps get the mood or vibe I’m trying to pull from my illustration. I wanted something inspired by a whimsical horror so i go for a cooler temperature pallete.
04 :INKING
During the inking I start finalizing with textured patterns, like zig zags in the tree or loops for the shadows in the back. I often flip my illustration to give myself a fresh eye.
05 :FINAL ILLUSTRATION
Everything is fully colored! And I make sure the value and linework contrast enough!
